Let’s get back to that BIG question – what will I choose as my niche blog topic, and will it be interesting to enough people?
Here’s one idea. www.43things.com is a great web2.0 site where people post their goals and are also able to see others goals for inspiration. So, open another browser window, and go to http://www.43things.com, and click the TAGS tab. Tags are words attached to a listed goal, that describe that goal. They can be thought of as keywords.
Pick the tag in largest type, and click through. The next page will list the top 15 (out of 100) goals with that tag attached, as well as a list of related tags. Each of the 15 goals has beside it the number of people who have used that tag – obviously, the more people using it, the more popular the topic.
From this list, you can find several topics that would make great niches – tattoos, falling in love (dating), learning Spanish, travel, photography and running marathons. Now, click through on other tags that interest you – note the goal topics that interest the most people. I’d choose to list any topics or goals that have over 10,000 people interested.
Now, go to the ZEITGEIST tab, and click through. (Zeitgeist refers to the moral or spiritual climate of society – what people are mainly thinking). You’ll find several categories, again with the number of people with that goal: today’s most popular, all-time most popular, new goals, popular achieved goals. At the bottom of the page is another tag cloud, which changes as you refresh the page. Lots of niche ideas here.
So – 43things.com is just one of the Web2.0 sites that, if explored, can help you find popular ideas for your niche blog.
