Many effective ways exist to infuse your writing with interest, readability and information. Since the most crucial part of your site is your headline, it is vital that it grabs attention immediately.
Writing the best headline is not as complicated as you might think. By following the right process, you can succeed every time.
What idea, or feeling or result do you want to convey to your readers? How you can introduce the following article or text?
Depending on what your text is about, you can choose from several different types of headlines:
1. If you are introducing a new service or product, that’s newsworthy, so publicize it!
Use words like Announcing, Discovery, Blockbuster, Introducing, Just Released, At Last or Breakthrough to make your news headline more appealing and exciting.
A classic example would be: “Great New Discovery Kills Kitchen Odors Quick!”
2. WIIFM — People want to know what it will do for them. This is the benefit headline.
First be familiar with your intended market. Know what they want. Research every benefit that your prospects are looking for with your product or service.
Choose the most compelling one (or maybe two) to focus on. One example of a benefit headline is: “Lose Your Bulges… And Save Money Too.”
3. If your service or product offers a guarantee, then advertise that in your headline.
Let your would-be customers know they can trust you by showing right in the headline. For example: “Clear Up Your Acne in Just 10 Days… Money Back Guarantee!”
4. How to books, videos and websites are everywhere, so you can’t go wrong with a ‘How to’ headline.
Just starting your headline with “How to” entices prospects to read on for solutions, information and advice you have for their problems. Here’s an example: “How to Sell Your Home For More in a Down Market”
5. The testimonial headline uses happy customer stories in the headline.
Let your customers sell for you. They will reveal benefits they have found from your products. For example: “ How I Improved My Memory in Just One Evening.”
6. Be careful using a question headline. Once you know your market, and what they are looking for, you can phrase a question. The best question headlines are those that encourage your prospects to be involved emotionally. One example: “Are These Two Foods Making You Gain Weight?”
7. You can also write a headline that tells your readers to take an action.
The command must encourage action by specifying the desirable results or benefits, not just features. The most effective headlines start with strong action verbs. For example: “Throw Away Your Diet and Lose Pounds Fast!”
Why not model your next headline from one of the types listed above. Be sure to add some sizzle to compel your prospects to read on. Just think about those headlines near the cash register on magazines and tabloids to see what I mean! Go beyond the usual and create your next headline from a different viewpoint and see your readership surge!
