Can Blogging be Profitable?

in How Do I Do It?

Blogs are created either as profit or non-profit sites. Some blogs simply provide an outlet for voicing opinions and thoughts of the blogger. However, most blogs are set up because the blogger has the intention of making a profiting in some way.
There are several methods of profiting from a blog and by applying some or all of  these methods you can create an online income.

Advertisements:

Selling advertising space is one of the most common ways to profit from a blog. Only blogs that have a considerable and consistent traffic flow can make money this way. To get that traffic, make sure your blog has a responsive target audience. Find a niche that attracts a crowd, and offer them posts with enough valuable information that will have them return again and again.

This is a passive form of income once the traffic flow is attracted. Although it takes work to look for advertisers and maintain the ads on your blog, you can make a reasonable amount of money this way. Remember that advertisers are more likely to pay for advertising on your blog if your target audience is a match to theirs.

Affiliate Programs:

Affiliate programs are also a major resource of profits for bloggers. They enable you to have the opportunity to make money even if your blog has a small audience. However, one downside to affiliate programs is that you need to put in
considerable work (and some $$) to attract others, outside of your blog.

You can market affiliate programs with a blog that reviews and compares affiliate offerings. This type of page gives you more credibility with your readers. If you’re going this route, make sure your blog posts are based on programs or products you have researched thoroughly, or purchased and used. Tell what you do and don’t like about the product, so people realize you have some authority. By writing honest reviews, you’re more likely to make a sale, rather than just giving a ’sales pitch’ for a product.

Find affiliate products offered through marketplaces such as Clickbank, Commission Junction, Affiliate Scout, ShareASale, and PayDotCom. To find more lists of Affiliate programs, or companies that offer an affiliate program, plug a search for affiliate programs into Google, and do some due diligence with the top results.

Promoting Content:

If you already have a product or service you offer, a blog creates an excellent opportunity to look for clients and increase your profits. Writing a blog that focuses on your area of expertise can help you easily become a recognized
authority in your field. Also, it will help potential clients to find you. You will soon find an increase in requests for your services and at the same time, you’ll build a stronger web reputation.

Aside from promoting your own product or service, you’ll benefit if you give some free information to your readers. By giving away some part of your service or product, you can attract sales for extended services, or related products
(either your own or an affiliate’s). If a reader finds your free information of value, he’s much more likely to come back for a related purchase.
