You read a lot about marketing yourself, your website, your affiliate products, etc. by writing and posting articles to various article directories. Yup – this is a great way to get your website name out there, by writing a great article and including a really compelling resource box.
However, there are hundreds of thousands of article writing marketers out there, some very mediocre, some very good, that you’re competing with. How can you write an article that will grab attention and bring you the interested and, more important, purchase-ready readers?
Here are a few tips:
Choose an audience that is seeking an answer – desperately. These could be people who are in trouble with the law, who want to lose weight, who are going through divorce, who have a specific health concern, who have lost their jobs, etc.
Find sites where the chosen group congregates online, and study their language, their root problem; find out what they’ve already tried for a solution.
Research what’s already been written in others articles, and take a different slant or viewpoint, always keeping in mind the psychological needs of your chosen audience.
If you’re marketing a specific product, thoroughly study the affiliate information, and use it to appeal to those needs.
Write conversationally; using short paragraphs, bullets, and lists if appropriate. Avoid complex sentences.
Make sure your resource box links are related to your article’s content.
Register with the major article submission sites and post your article. Many of these sites have a tutorial section on writing effective articles. Go through the tutorials, and pay attention to the guidelines of the site. And most important of all, have some fun with it!
